What We Do

Just a short walk from the centre of Calne  in Wiltshire, Castlefields Park a valuable space in the community for both recreation and leisure activities.

Castlefields Canal and River Park association (or CARP for short) was established in 2001 as a charitable association to promote and put in place the vision that had been out forward by our local community.  The charity brings together professionals and volunteers to help maintain and improve this space as well as help run events for the community.

Our Causes

We work hard every month to make sure that the park stays clean and well maintained. Once a month we run 'work parties' where volunteers come along to help complete projects or maintenance tasks in the park.

We also work with the support of other groups such as Calne Clean Up Crew outside of our work parties to keep the park free of litter.

Developing the park

One of our goals is to keep developing the park, adding new elements which can be used and enjoyed by members of Calne's community. So far we have been involved in projects to set up the Chevywell Spring, the fitness trail, jubilee tree planting and more.

Keeping the park clean

While out and about in the park we take time to pick up any litter which has been dropped and also take care to cut back overgrown plants, clearing the river and making sure that surfaces remain fresh and grafitti free.

Organising community events

Over the years CARP has organised and participated in many community events and activities from the annual Bunny Hunt to elf door trails.

One of our aims is to encourage the local community to enjoy the space along the river and canal.
